Have you ever had one of those days where you just don’t care? Like, not about anything. I get them a lot. I feel like even if Avalar got attacked I just wouldn’t care. Nobody takes me for the depressed type and most of the time I’m not but everyone’s allowed to get sad, right? I’ve gotten pretty good at hiding it since I was little, now no one can spot it. Well…. …Almost no one.

Raz can see it. He can see right through every lie or secret I keep. I guess it’s a trait he’s picked up after being hurt so many times. He can see when I’m sad or upset, it’s kinda aggravating because I can’t read him. He always look neutral, emotionally dead really. He’s lying in the grass right now and I can just tell he’s watching me. Never judging, just watching.

Spyro stood in his human form at the edge of one of the many floating islands in Lofty Castle. He stared into the purple void of sky below as clouds of lavender and pink drifted like cotton candy. He frowned softly as he watched them, his heart aching. He could hear the devils fighting with the fairies as they hovered atop the islands. Sadness ate at him as he reached up, running his fingers over the rib of his wing. He did not normally let them show in his human form but he could not help it this time. He frowned as he looked at it; it hurt to know that his wings would never be strong enough to support his lean weight.

“What thoughts bother you, Spyro?” He sighed softly at the question as he heard Raziel get up. Spyro looked down at his shoes as he heard Raziel walk towards him. His shoulders slumped as the older male walked closer.

“I-I dunno, Raz…” Spyro gazed into the clouds below as he crossed his arms. He blew his bangs out of his eyes. He flinched slightly as he suddenly felt Raziel’s claws graze the sensitive membrane of his wings. The teen blushed brightly, the touch making him feel strange. He swallowed hard as he suddenly felt Raziel’s hands on his hips as the wraith whispered flatly to him.

“If I can see correctly, you have the view that I had before Coco’s watch fixed my wings. You want to fly and the world won’t let you.” Raziel sighed softly and shook his head, “But your wings can’t be restored because they were not hurt and that is the cruelty of fate.”

“Raz, w-what’re you trying to say?” Spyro was starting to get worried, Raziel was never this touchy.

“What I am saying is that when you cannot fly, fate causes you to fall.” A cry escaped Spyro as Raziel suddenly shoved him hard, weight and momentum dropping Spyro off the edge of the island. Fear spiked inside Spyro, his heart feeling like it was crawling into his throat. His weak wings unfurled, slowing his decent slightly. He gritted his fangs as he realized there was no point, there were no islands under him. Panic quickly crawled across his skin, terror driving all thoughts from his mind. The emptiness easily let Raziel’s telepathy into his mind.

‘Now for a lesson you taught me, Spyro.’

‘I-I taught you a l-lesson?’

‘Oh yes. But for now, close your eyes and fold your wings again.’

‘W-why?’

‘Trust me. Like you always have.’

‘Raz, you just pushed me off a cliff!’

‘All part of the process of trust. Believe in me, Spyro.’ Spyro frowned at this but did as he was told. The strange movement midfall caused him to roll onto his back. He whimpered softly and swallowed dryly. His heart pounded fast and felt sick as he free fell faster. He bit his lip to keep from screaming, his fang piercing his bottom lip. He really did not like this but he knew that he trusted his friend.

‘Time for your lesson:' Shock made Spyro gasp as he suddenly stopped falling, feeling strong arms around him. He swallowed thickly and opened his eyes, staring up in surprise at Raziel’s smirking face as he held him bridal style, ‘Falling is much more fun when someone is there to catch you.’ Spyro grinned brightly at his friends words and nodded as he thought back a few moments. Once he had gotten past initional terror, there had been a spike of freedom and exhilaration from the free fall. Maybe falling would not be so lame with such a good friend around.

From my crossover universe: Council of the Twin Lights.

Spyro may noit be able to fly w/o magic, but that is what makes him unique. :3
